What happens to a page

One photo is all it takes. Everything after comes from the page itself.

ScienceChapter 7

7.2 Germination of a seed

A seed contains a tiny plant, the embryo, and stored food.

When it gets water, air and warmth, the seed swells and its coat bursts.

The young root grows down into the soil, and the shoot grows up towards light.

Fig. 7.3
Asha, a Lumaarthi tutor

AshaThink of the seed as a lunch box with a baby plant inside. Water wakes it up: the root goes down to drink, the shoot goes up to find sunlight.

An electric bell: a battery, a switch, an electromagnet, a soft iron strip, a hammer and a gong.

In the language you think in

The page is read in its own language. The explanation comes in yours: English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam. Handy when a grandparent helps with homework in the family's language.

English: Plants make their own food using sunlight.

Why does the root grow down and not up?

AshaYour page says the root grows down into the soil. That's where it can hold the plant firmly and take in water. The shoot goes the other way, up towards light.

So the shoot needs light first?

AshaYes. It grows towards light, which the young leaves need to make food.

Questions

Which languages does it explain in?

English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The page is always read aloud in its own language.

Is it only for school students?

No. Anyone with a page to understand can use it: college students, people preparing for exams, parents helping with homework, and grandparents learning alongside the children.

Are the animations ready-made?

No. Each page's pictures are drawn fresh from that page: its figures and its own sentences. Topics with no figure can be shown as a step-by-step process instead, and some pages simply don't need an animation.

What happens to my photos?

They're used only to read and explain your page, and they're checked for safety. Photos are deleted after 30 days, and you can delete a page or your whole account at any time. Read the privacy policy.
